Indian Railways will be replacing all the LHB coaches in the system with newer coaches. We have released tenders to major rail rolling stock manufacturers as a request for proposal. Siemens-Citrus Mobility have responded with a downgraded version of the Viaggio Comfort/CRF-3A coaches (also used on ICX) with a top speed of 220kmph and capacity of 80 passengers per coach in 2nd class.
Alstom has responded with an enhanced version of the LHB coaches with articulated coaches with a top speed of 200kmph and capacity of 50 passengers per coach in 2nd class.
CAF has responded with a new concept coach capable of 160kmph and a capacity of 70 passengers per coach in 2nd class.
The Siemens offering is more likely to be chosen since the first units are ready in the IC livery and are also compatible with all locomotives in the fleet.

The required features are :
Design speed of more than 200kmph
Capacity of more than 50 passengers in 2nd class
Knuckle/AAR-Tightlock/CBC coupling
Compatibility with WAP-7, Siemens Vectron and WDP-3A locomotives
Lightweight aluminium-Steel coach body
Semi Low floor entry, with steps and wheelchair ramps
Blind accessibility
Automatic plug type doors which can be both centrally and individually operated
Guard-pilot signal lights
HOG cables and points for hotel power
Mood based lighting system, controlled individually for each coach
Powerful AC system
Zonal climate control
Low track noise bogies
Aerodynamic driving trailer cars
Wide windows
6 emergency windows per coach
8 emergency talk back units per coach
Bio toilets
Wide gangways and aisles
Fully sealed gangways
Emergency levers for doors
Thin points on the roof, bottom and sides of the coach for easy resque during accidents
Anti-climbing feature to prevent coaches from climbing onto each other during collisions or derailments

Also they will be ordered in sets of 16 coaches each - 1 DTC 2nd class coach, 1 1st class single gangway coach, 1 MFC Railbistro coach, 3 regular 1st class coaches and 10 regular 2nd class coaches.

CRF-4 coaches
The Siemens-Citrus offering to IR for LHB replacement

Lets make life hell for car owners lol
and life better for public transit users and cyclists

  1. On street parking will come with a fee of 400 rupees per hour
  2. All cars will come with a 100% tax for road usage
  3. Toll fee will be increased by 3 times, aka a 40 rupee toll will become 120 rupees
  4. The minimum cost for parking at parking lots/garages has been increased to 500 rupees and the per hour rate now is 200 rupees (basically you shell out 700 rupees for 2 hours and 500 rupees for 1 hour lmao)
  5. Fuel prices for private vehicle owners will be increased by 600%
  6. All roads with 2 lanes (and with/without on street parking) are being converted to cobble streets and a speed limit of 30kmph will be imposed on them
  7. All bus fares in the country have been fixed (5 rupees base fare and then 2 rupees per kilometer for regular buses and 5 rupees per kilometer for intercity coach buses)
  8. Auto rickshaws have been banned since they are pieces of crap and auto drivers are idiots with no regard to traffic rules. This will also see literally half the traffic congestion removed
  9. All high floor city buses (basically entry height of 1000mm+ and 4 steps to enter) have been taken off the roads, except heritage buses. SLF buses (400mm entry and 1 intermediate step) and low entry buses (100mm+ entry and step free entry) have been given subsidies.
  10. All railway platforms have been height adjusted to match with train entry height
  11. All cars which don’t conform to BSIV norms or higher will be immediately taken off the streets
  12. As I have said many times before, EV’s are banned, except for golf carts and e-scooters and e-bikes
  13. All suburbs and city centers will be redesigned like European cities (mainly Vienna, Leipzig, Budapest) with Indian touches
  14. All zoning laws have been abolished
  15. All intra-state flights have been banned, except for cities with no rail connectivity
  16. Tram fares have been fixed just like bus fares and are the same
  17. All cities and towns now have dedicated cycle lanes, designed with the help of Amsterdam’s city planners.

So… no offense but basically you’re conducting forced evictions to plow under everyone’s homes/businesses and rebuild everything? And this is across the entirety of India?

What are you going to do about the now hundreds of millions of people that you just made homeless? Are you going to give them a new home/business after the reconstruction? Are you buying their property from them or are you just taking it?

That alone is going to be absurdly expensive (not to mention the cost of all the other things you said will be done). How much debt are you willing to put your country into just to redesign some cities?

No

Not destroying any homes

Sort of
but its a price i’m ready to pay to make the cities better and more liveable

Then how exactly are you redesigning the city layouts? And suburbs are residential by nature, so if you’re redesigning them, you’ll inevitably have to destroy homes, as well as the lives of the people who live there.

So
I live in a suburb of Mumbai
There is a 4 lane stroad here with some exits and virtually no speed limit
Beat up shops built of tin, abandoned buildings whose construction was stopped decades ago, run down bus stops, disgusting train station and a police station that looks like it was built in the British era
So basically, the stroad will be converted into a road with minimum exits and dedicated cycle lanes and with the middle 2 lanes being dedicated for trams, and the streets on the inside will become cobble streets with enough connections with apartment complexes and the train station. And the road will have good bus stops (like the new ones that they are building here irl). The streets on the inside will be converted to cobble streets ( cobble street somewhere in Europe ). All the shops that were on the outside will be shifted inside and the street will get a 30kmph speed limit and become walkable and cyclable. And yes, redesigning the train station and police station.

Thats the base plan for the redevelopment of suburbs
Nothing will be demolished, except those abandoned buildings (unless something can be done about them) and those run down shops

One more thing
Single family homes virtually don’t exist here
It’s all apartment complexes which can’t be demolished
They will only get new connections and will be away from the main roads

And that also involves making the city center car free and accessible only by public transit (buses, trains, trams, metro) or walking/cycling.

And there is a history of shifting roads away from sites in India
they shifted the stroad here by a few meters to make metro work easier

I’ve gotta ask, why cobble streets? The reason old European cities have cobble streets (and usually only in the city centers) is because they were built hundreds of years ago, before paving.
From the sounds of some of your other plans, increasing ease of life for those with disabilities seems important (and that’s good), but cobble streets seem like they would be a nightmare for someone who is in a wheelchair or need walking assistance such as a cane.
Why not use concrete or asphalt to create a smoother, more user friendly surface?

They are cheaper than tar, and in a way make the surrounding environment cooler and seem more pleasant
and they add to visual beauty

Sidewalks exist

i’ll brb in 5 min
dad’s calling

But isn’t your whole reason for doing this to reduce the use of cars? Why not just turn those cobble streets into foot/bike only paths?
