The last time Japanese railways were truly nationalized was in 1987.
After that, JNR (Japanese National Railways) was divided into 6 separate companies for passenger operations (JR Hokkaido, East, Central, West, Shikoku, Kyushu) and one for freight (JR Freight) - all of which are independent companies.

they don’t make enough money and not enough people use it lol. id chose to fly or dive any day of the week

mfs in the US just don’t like trains lol, I doubt it would change much

only 2 hours before an international most of the time, domestic you can get away with an hour

we don’t agree on much but I’m with u here lol

bingo

people in the us really love cars though. like really really love cars.

What a suprise. Me 2

Same here. Although the N700A is better.

That’s not exactly true. If there’s no one to ride the train (or not enough to be profitable), then it doesn’t matter how great of a network you have, it won’t be used.

They look pretty good ngl
Nice chargers and ventures

Who wouldn’t?

Ah ok

dive GIF

lmao yes

oh

You might want to stick that edited statement up your ass

The new kyushu ones are

Why do government services need to be profitable? They are there to connect people and not to make profits.

Not always actually

Ok, let’s see how much use a high speed, high efficiency train network, like the Euro ones you love so much, would get in the middle of the Sahara.

You can’t pull demand out of thin air. If there’s no one to ride the train then there’s no point in having the train.

They don’t necessarily need to turn a profit, but they should be able to support themselves. If the demand doesn’t exist for it to break even, why should I be willing to fund said service? That’s money that I could spend on college that would instead be going to something that likely wouldn’t even be of any use to me.

The N700S stands for multiple of them…

800 series?

Red - HSR (>200kmph)
Black - SHSR (<200kmph)
This might not be the best network, but it might just work (Morocco already has HSR and Egypt is building a new rail network in collaboration with Siemens). They don’t necessarily need to stop in the middle of the Sahara.

E231-3000 series EMU operating the Hachiko Line - Kawagoe Line through service.

Fun fact: The Hachiko Line is split into a northern and southern section; there are no services linking the two since only the south from Hachioji to Komagawa is electrified at 1,500V DC. The remainder of the line from Komagawa to Kuragano is operated by KiHa 110 series DMUs.
