Honestly though, it makes no sense to classify an aircraft as regional based off its capacity. Other than the fact that it would make zero commercial sense, what’s holding Embraer from making an E170 with 10.000+km range? Would that be a “regional jet”?

Lack of demand, and the probably very expensive airframe modifications required to accommodate extra fuel tanks.

cargo planes are my favorite regional jets! just like 6 seats!

Nah, the B-2 is better. 3 seats, ultra long range and can be refueled midair! But since it has just 3 seats, it’s surely regional, right?

Yes, and I think they chose not to use the A380 as a replacement for those on purpose since not many domestic airports in Japan can handle its wingspan.
