Watch it. The rest of the anime is actually really good, but the last episode or two goes completely off plot, is impossible to understand and will make you regret not stopping at episode 22.

Oh yeah, the characters were good, it was just around the middle of S1, the episodes seemed to drag on with no progress so it got boring.
