On January first of 2021, Jetblue airways took delivery of its first Airbus A220-300. The delivery flight landed at JFK from Mobile and the aircraft is now being prepared to start commercial service in the days to come. Jetblue ordered this aircraft to slowly replace the aging fleet of E-jets, which cost 30% more to operate than the new, fuel efficient jet.
More about the A220…
It was designed by Bombardier with the name CS300 but the program was purchased by airbus and given the name A220. This next gen aircraft can fly up to 160 passengers over 6,000 kilometers at 840 km/h. (Credit: Airbus)
Jetblue’s configuration of this aircraft is sought to contain 140 seats and a 2-3 configuration, with one additional row compared to their previous generation of Embraer jets.
“As we evolve our fleet for the future, the A220’s significant reduction in per-seat emissions supports our ongoing commitment to carbon neutrality for all our domestic flights, and moves us closer to achieving our pledge of net zero carbon emissions across all operations by 2040.”
