Poker also has competitions, governing boards, a hall of fame, and rankings, but I donā€™t acknowledge that as a sport either.

Uh the fact that they made those things just says ā€œWe donā€™t have lives, canā€™t play real sports, but still want to feel specialā€

Yes and no, depending on what kind of specific sport you are talking about. It isnā€™t a physical sport, but it does fall into the category of mind sports. So since ā€˜sportsā€™ is a general term covering multiple aspects, Iā€™d say that it is a sport after all.
