ICAO vs IATA Codes: Airline Edition

Well we have an Airport Edition, so why not an airline version?

Examples:

IATA: BA, G3, RG, DL, LX
ICAO: BAW, GLO, VRG, DAL, SWR

  • ICAO

IATA is completely random.

Take Singapore for example.

SIA - the complete acronym.
SQ? doesn’t make any sense.

Should be SG tbh

I like ICAO better, but I’m more used to IATA. So I’m kinda in a pickle.

The IATA codes are all leftovers except for a few dozen airlines, which had first dibs

Idk… I like IATA better imo because it’s just cleaner. Take Southwest for example, I like “WN” better then “SWA”, not sure why.

Also American, “AA” is so much better than “AAL”.

And “SQ” is kinda cool ngl

Yeah, some IATAs like UA, AA and BA are better, but LX is just wth

Yeah but IATA is random

Like SWA would be easier to guess even for non avgeeks

But organizational purposes make IATA so much better

SWA takes too much room whereas WN doesnt
