Looking at the specs of the A358, I’d say the A338 is actually a closer replacement for it than the A339.

Yeah not really (though the A338’s range is almost identical to that of the A358)

(Before you comment about the lenght, remember that the A330 is typically 2-4-2 in economy vs the A350’s typical 3-3-3)
