Cars vs. Public Transit

Why public transit is better than cars :

  1. With public transportation, you’ll be able to have your own time, take a nap, avoid the road rage, and get out of the pressures of driving your own private car. During the commute, you can also read or just enjoy the view.
  2. Using public transport can save you up to four times the money you use commuting in your private or personal car. The regular use of your personal car will require the costs of maintenance and other additional charges such as parking fees, emission tickets, and speeding fines. By using public transport, you’ll be able to save all the money directed to such miscellaneous expenses of using a personal vehicle.
  3. Train, Bus, ferry and tram travel as pointed out by TransLink considerably saves on the dependence on fossil fuel reserves as well as supplies which continue to destroy natural environments. It therefore means that the use of public transport saves on at least twice the fossil fuel energy used in personal cars. One full train saves fossil fuel that would have been used by more than 600 cars on the road.
  4. This is an awesome experience especially for those who are inclined towards learning belief systems and just out to have fun. If you use public bus transport, you’ll be able to notice some of the quirky beliefs and personalities of the drivers. (I once had a bus driver setting the auto gears with his foot)
  5. Personal vehicle accidents are estimated to contribute to higher fatality rates than bus or train related accidents. More than 40, 0000 deaths and many more injuries annually are due to car accidents alone globally. By traveling in public transport, you significantly reduce your threat to road carnages.
  6. Public transportation can convey many more people in much less space than individual automobiles, which helps to keep traffic congestion lower, which in turn reduces air pollution from idling vehicles, and helps riders avoid the stress that comes from daily driving in highly congested areas.
  7. Public transportation is linked to healthier lifestyles, as people who use public transportation are said to get more than three times the amount of physical activity per day than those who don’t, just from walking to and from their transit stops and their final destination.

actually yes
north america has virtually 0 public transit

A clapped out civic does not define most cars

We aren’t comparing buses and tomb stones. It’s just an example of something that’s depressing that can’t just be fixed with a paint job.

I’ve seen buses try to go off road. It doesn’t end well.

Not much worse than sitting on a bus in bumber to bumper.

Other than the people that made it, there’s basically zero difference between North American buses and foreign ones.

You can powerslide a car, and it will put a smile on the face of even the most bitter of people.

You can’t leave whenever you want on a bus. You can only go to places along a bus route.

you can only go along a road with cars, what if you wanna go to the forest. makes no sense

Cars will take you through it if you have the right one.
