Well actually, Vought was the first company to create a non-experimental aircraft without a mechanical back-up, this was the F-8 Crusader. It was bought by Northrop Grumman where it then became a sub-contractor primarily for Boeing, so in reality it can easily be argued that it is a Boeing thing
