I know in a lot of other debates I’m either split between Boeing and Airbus or siding with Airbus (A220 vs E2), but on this one, I’ve gotta pick the 787.

Don’t get me wrong, the A330neo looks cool (mask and winglets, pretty cool) but the 787 looks better and is a work of art

Ah, ah, ah, we are in two different boats here.
Delta inherited those orders from Northwest, similar to United and Continental. If it didn’t work with their fleet it makes sense for the cancellation, as that creates inefficiencies in the fleet.
Hawaiian however ordered them directly, no merger or anything, just a straight up order. Airbus then cancelled the A358 and then automatically moved their orders to the A338 without consulting Hawaiian, which is a pretty crappy move if you ask me. Hawaiian was being forced by Airbus to take it or leave it…and they left it and went with the B789.
Also, your Boeing discount argument does not work, literally all orders are given a discount, some more than others though, and in this case we know where Hawaiian probably fell.
