The people a.k.a. the mods can see your IP address. Your IP address is specific to your device, so the only way they would see a duplicate is when another account is logged in from the device.
It could’ve also been a duplicate account that you made a long time ago, and he made a new account more recently. There definitely is a duplicate somewhere, since it shows the duplicate under your IP address.
