I am really tired of the CNN and that kind of people which keep feeding others wrong information
Everytime a news report related to airports will have the word ‘tarmac’ in it, used to talk about what should be called the apron taxiway and runway, since tarmac is just a material and not the correct term for those locations. It’s like saying a plane was ‘delayed on the asphalt for 3 hours’. Plus tarmac is no longer in use to build airports since the weak material cannot withstand the weight of big jets nowadays.

And because of those reports, someone at school asked me how long an airport tarmac is

My answer: There’s no such thing as the length of the tarmac. It’s either taxiway, apron or runway. Which one are you talking about?
