Meh. It’s the price usually. There is a direct from LAX-MNL but it’s often $1000 more than LAX-ICN-MNL or SAN-NRT-MNL.

They do but the Air Canada route seemed to be cheaper. In retrospect, it probably would have been cheaper and more pleasant to fly on JAL direct considering the hotel costs in Canada.

Also, JAL offers free seat selection in all classes if you’re booking through their website (which can honestly be quite a pain to navigate at times) - something that very few airlines do. (Of course, you need to pay extra to reserve an extra legroom seat, but that’s really it; there’s no extra cost if you decide to purchase a seat in a certain section of the economy class cabin.) (I’m looking at you, Emirates.)
