Here’s the thing.
The MAX has one engine option (LEAP 1B) while the NEO has two (LEAP 1A and PW1100G).

A320-251N (LEAP 1A)

737 MAX 8 (LEAP 1B)

A321-271N (PW1100G)

Therefore, it’s not much of a surprise that the first two actually sound very similar to each other. Personally I also prefer the CFM Leap, but if you asked me whether the 1A or 1B is better, I don’t think I could provide a definitive answer.
