Here’s probably a controversial post
The US Navy should name carriers/LHDs like (Saratoga/Iwo Jima/Guadalcanal/[insert battle here]) or admirals (Halsey/Spruance/Leahy, but later on when the current ships retire) rather than presidents or other political figures, like John C. Stennis or Ronald Reagan would be better used as a Ticonderoga Class CG or any future Destroyer (like the DDG(X) in the future)/Cruiser/Submarine, since not everyone was fully satisfied with their presidency/whatever they did to the navy to get a carrier named after them in the first place.
However, I am not opposed to George Washington/Lincoln/Any other president who helped win a major conflict, since in my opinion, they deserve a major vessel (capital ship) named after them since they helped the US win 2 major wars, the War of Independence and Civil War, instead of the absolute curbstomp of the Gulf War.
Major battles in the circumstances to name ships after (that I propose) represents a major turning point in a war, showed incredible bravery, or cemented the victory of the USA in said war, which would represent the spirit of the US to be more of pride and victory instead that of Bureaucracy and maybe like 60% approval score
Above reasons is why I’d prefer major battles/great commanders or president in a major war, as names of Aircraft Carriers instead of Political figures
